My Philosophy of Christian Counseling
As a Christian Counselor, the authority of Christ and the authority of the Scriptures guide every aspect of my practice and ministry.
Clients do not have to be professing Christians, but must understand that my counsel is informed by my faith. I have received significant healing in my own life, and have experienced God's love, hope and grace in the midst of challenges and struggles.
After more than twenty years in pastoral ministry, I want to reach out to the greater Body of Christ to bring healing, grace and forgiveness to those who are hurting, broken, and wounded. People are capable of changing. Critical elements to emotional and spiritual healing are the Scriptures, truth, grace, time, forgiveness and boundaries.
Many clients will come for counseling who want to change. It is my responsibility to offer hope to those who genuinely want to change and help clients work on the issues that keeping them from experiencing the wholeness and health that God wants for them and their relationships.
Christian counseling is Christ-centered focusing on who Christ is; what He has done for us; and His present intercessory ministry while we are still in pain. The counsel I provide will be Bible-centered, seeking understanding and resolving conflicts by utilizing the sufficiency of the Scriptures and applying principles found in the Word of God. Lastly, Christian counseling is church-centered, I firmly believe that my clients will have the greatest opportunity for long-term change and success when rooted in a local community where growth and healing will continue to take place. In this community, we can learn the "one another" commands of Christ as people learn to authentically relate to other people in healthy ways and reach out beyond their personal needs and comfort level.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you,
says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil,
to give you a future and a hope.”
Jeremiah 29:11
